A place built for men who are ready to rise

The story behind Emafini — and why we exist.

Our Story

Born from conviction. Built for men.

Emafini Mountain Lodge was born from a simple conviction: men need a place where truth is spoken, faith is lived, and real transformation is possible.

Our founders — a master counselor with decades of experience in men's recovery, and a businessman who found his own freedom after years of fighting addiction — came together with a shared vision: to build something that actually works. Not another 28-day revolving door. Not another institution. A refuge. A brotherhood. A place where men can stop performing recovery and start living it.

The name Emafini comes from a Swazi word meaning "God in the mountains" or "God in the clouds." Our program director spent a year in the highlands of Swaziland, Africa, building a recovery program at 2,450 feet elevation — crying out to God in the wilderness. Years later, he arrived at a mountain property in Floyd, Virginia — at exactly 2,450 feet.

He didn't choose the name. The name chose him.

That is the spirit of this place. God meets men here. In the mountains. On higher ground.

What We Believe

Our philosophy

Men are created for strength, purpose, and leadership — not survival.

Addiction is not the end of the story. It is the valley before the mountain.

Healing requires truth, accountability, and spiritual grounding — not just clinical intervention.

Brotherhood is not optional. Men sharpen men. No one climbs alone.

Christ restores what addiction tries to destroy. That is our foundation and our confidence.

Our Environment

Rugged. Warm. Masculine. Real.

Emafini Mountain Lodge is located in Floyd, Virginia. Five fireplaces. Timber beams. Open land. Mountain air.

This is not a hospital. This is not a clinical facility with fluorescent lighting and laminate floors. This is a place where a man can breathe — and in that breathing, begin to remember who he is.

We believe environment shapes the man. The mountains teach humility. The land teaches patience. The fireside teaches honesty. The brotherhood teaches strength.

Every detail of this place was chosen because we believe men deserve to do the hardest work of their lives somewhere that honors the gravity of what they're doing.

Faith at the Center

Christ is our foundation

We believe true freedom comes from Christ. Addiction breaks identity — Christ restores it. That is not a tagline. That is the reason this place exists.

Faith at Emafini isn't an optional add-on for the religious residents. It is the soil everything else is planted in. Clinical care, brotherhood, discipline, vocational work — all of it grows from a Christ-centered foundation.

We don't force faith. We invite transformation. And we have found that when men encounter God honestly — in the mountains, in the Word, in the silence — something breaks open that therapy alone cannot reach.

What We Stand For

Our values

Truth

We speak truth with clarity, compassion, and conviction — even when it's hard. Especially when it's hard.

Brotherhood

Men sharpen men. No one climbs alone. We build bonds that last a lifetime.

Faith

Christ is our foundation, our strength, and our freedom. Everything flows from Him.

Discipline

Growth requires structure, consistency, and accountability. We take that seriously.

Courage

We face what's broken so God can restore what's true. That takes courage — and we walk into it together.

Freedom

Not just sobriety — transformation. The goal is never just stopping. It's becoming.
